MONSTER WORKSHOP

This post is designed to help players workshop ideas for characters' monster forms while writing their applications, based on a small Plurk survey that suggested it might be helpful. If you don't need it, there's no obligation to post here, but we wanted to give players a space to pick each other's brains.

This would be a great time to review our FAQ information on curses. Consider how different stages of transformation might look on your character, or whether you want a monster that's more horrifying or more horny (or both!). Remember: violent and sexual urges influence monster transformations (and detransformations!) — failure to vent both will cause a person to transform, but either committing an act of violence or engaging in some monsterfucking is enough to transform someone back to their human(oid) state.

Below, we've paraphrased some helpful advice that players were already prepared to provide via Plurk (thank you to Kait, Pink, and Seph!):

The 400-word limit on the application is a suggested upwards limit on length! However, for those struggling to write much, bear in mind we expect you to stick to what's on your app, so try to cover everything regarding physical attributes, natural weapons, powers, and behaviors.

If you're writing a monster that feels common, consider variations between different lores, and specify the version that you feel might better fit your character. Try not to leave out what feels "obvious" or "standard."

Your application might answer the questions: can it fuck, and if so, how?

If you want to make a monster unique, aim for unusual morphology (this werewolf has SPINES!) or build off your character's specific interests/associations (this faerie collects musicians!) to flesh out a more generalized monster type.

Ideas:

demon: pretty traditional demon with horns/wings/claws/etc, with a little bit of hellraiser thrown in for good measure. if I go with this one there'd be the option for other people to summon/command him to a certain extent (and he will do anything for you but he is also extremely needy so if you don't pay enough attention to him he will attack you, whoops). would be playing a lot with temptation/corruption here, with an emphasis on sadism and masochism as well (if he ever gets flogged in public it will be the best day of his life, he's weird like that).

vampire: plays into his addictive tendencies (getting hooked on blood from a few specific people and returning to feed on them multiple times) and general interest in making people bleed. also he's a fancy charming rich guy who is pretty over-the-top villainous so it just fits. would be playing with some of the traditional vampire tropes like needing to be invited inside, as well as some manipulation/hypnosis stuff. my main concern with this would be making it too plain; I don't want to go too far into bat anthro territory but also don't just want to be a guy with fangs.

lich: a corrupt and toxic lich because he's an actual captain planet villain, destroying the environment since 1972. otherworldly, makes terrible bargains, steals life. think a more solid hexxus from fern gully. maybe a little bit of fae vibes with this one too, but like a pollution fae instead of a nature fae.

open to input, I am always indecisive as fuck and there are so many good options.

I'm liking the demon and vampire ideas the most, though demon sounds like it might have more opportunities for CR and long-term plotting,
