CW WARNING: Death, destruction of corpses

Hello everyone!

I come to you with a player plot that has been approved by the mods! Xue Yang has been a very bad boy and its your job to find that out through an in character man hunt!

Back story: Xue Yang stole one of the corpses that was being transported to the ceremony that would have brought it back to life. He nabbed the body under the pretense of "helping" Ianthe and Mateus transport those already prepared in accordance with the death rites via wagon to the castle gates. This gave him a chance to be alone with a body where he slipped off with it after it has been accounted for. He has completely destroyed this body. It will be cremated and turned into a powder that he is using to make a poison. Now...people will not be aware of this new weapon he has created. Only that he managed to destroy a body making it unable to be brought back. The town is now down 1 human...which makes the townsfolk very upset. They are going to be on the hunt for the missing person and will need the help of anyone who is willing.

IF you happen to help with the search, your characters social status will increase! They appreciate the help you are giving to find their missing family member. If anyone should happen to volunteer to take on the hunt, if you are clever enough you'll be able to discover that Xue Yang is the culprit and that the missing person is never going to return. Again...social status improves since you will have brought the bad guy to justice!

Xue Yang is then going to be brought to trial. Following his apprehension, a meeting will be called in the Moot Hall, and a democratic forum of townspeople will weigh in on what his punishment should be. This means your characters are also welcome to speak for or against him at the town meeting! These comments will also be remembered for the future, whether you speak well of him or otherwise.

At this meeting, Churchwarden Mateus will outline the social taboos broken here: death and destruction at the hands of monsters are tragic facts of life, but to conspire to make that temporary trauma permanent is an atrocity unlike any the town has seen before. He will charge Xue Yang with a crime of the mind to conspire to permanently rob the family of their loved one's life and prosperity and with introducing a new kind of unthinkable violence to a community that had previously never suffered it.

I will be creating a log after Xue Yang has been captured so that people can interact with him at the meeting and with each other to discuss this terrible situation. This will all go up after the conclusion of the event on the 15th.

Finally...his punishment will be given. The township believes in restorative justice above all else, so they will ultimately decide that Xue Yang's punishment is twofold:

First, he must spend the two weeks following the Moot Hall meeting speaking with townspeople who have come back from the dead. He must ask them about their experiences with death, how it felt to be dead and resurrected, and listen to their stories. He must ask them about how it would have felt if their return had been postponed, and if they had learned that someone had mishandled their body while they were dead. The goal of this is to build empathy for the dead.

Second, he must serve the family of his victim for a period of three months while they recover from their grief and trauma.

Lastly, despite the fact that the community believes in forgiveness and restorative justice, that will not prevent the townspeople from acting prejudiced towards him in the future. Most people will no longer feel inclined to include him in their free trade economy. He will struggle to acquire luxury goods (but will still be provided food, water, and shelter) and to find people who would work with him, as they consider him untrustworthy.

This treatment will be at its worst for the duration of his sentence serving the family, but these sentiments will reignite any time a corpse goes missing in the future, as people will associate Xue Yang with the introduction of this violence to their society.

So feel free to blame Xue Yang for anything that goes wrong in the foreseeable future lol.

Shades is wordless at this kid's ability to get in trouble. Sorry ex-roomie, he's not going to go against a backwater mob openly for him here.

What he will be doing is be curious what Xue Yang thought he was doing. He might help in the sidelines when not in public, and maybe use the opportunity to find out more about this resurrection process. (Thanks roomie for opening the floor!)

If he speaks out, it's only to point out that people stay dead where they're from, so at most the kid probably thought he was desecrating a body. (And encourage Xue Yang to go with that sob story that he didn't know.)

Xue Yang definitely didn't know that they would come back. He is perfectly innocent! He was simply recycling!

But yes, play up that "I did not know" card! You've got a cute innocent face when you're not grinning like a crazy murderer.

Given Xue Yang spoke to Ianthe of his desire to do this in our thread, I feel that she would quickly come to the conclusion that he did indeed do so once the townspeople start looking for the missing person. It is also entirely possible that she looked the other way at the moot hall to facilitate the stealing as she absolutely would let him (even knowing about the Resurrections). Please let me know if that interests you.

What I don't think she'll do is rat him out. She'll help with the search for status but leave the actual accusations to other people. She wants to see this process play out and, ultimately, try to get her hands on some of the corpse poison he made from it.

I also welcome anyone leveling accusations at Ianthe as the one responsible. It's not an unreasonable conclusion to make.

He likes her already lol I definitely like the idea that she might have helped him get away with it in the beginning. He certainly would not reveal her involvement to the mob that will eventually track him down.

He will likely be willing to share a small amount given her help with the process once he has completely finished it.

Sounds good! She'll have set a body down at a place adjacent to where he was lurking, and then promptly go draw attention to the carts as though someone had caused a shroud to come loose. Some chiding for people to be careful and then complaining about having to fix the shroud to create an opening for him.

Something like that.

ko here is going to be greatly disturbed by this himself for other reasons; he'll be searching for the body and he'll attend the trial, but won't say anything either way.

uta songscape will also be disturbed and, though she hasn't yet met the culprit, she'll likely get pretty heated and might call out someone who might ask for a lesser punishment. after trial events she'll be pretty shaken up.

I apologize for this boy's terrible life choices and how they will eventually upset them! Xue Yang...will not be sorry at all for the emotional turmoil he has caused (even though he is going to have to pretend to be to get through all this).

A body part will be left intact so that the search crew will have some evidence to go by! More information will be available once the log is up.

Link is good at getting roped into doing things, whether he understands the full story or not, so he will help the search. He's extremely nosy when he has to be, too, so I volunteer him to get into whatever kind of trouble trying to help solve this.

Sounds good! The more searchers the better! Xue Yang will be leaving behind a body part (accidentally) that will eventually lead to the capture. So there will be clues that Link can follow!
